My Portugal Dream

My Portugal dream truly began after my first child was born. Deep inside, I felt the need to slow down and reduce the pressure of the life we were living. We packed our bags and began a family journey in India, searching for clarity and a different way of life.

When we returned home, we looked at our lives with new eyes and realized that we wanted something very different from the path we were on. By then, our second son had been born, and we decided to begin a new journey as a family searching for a place we could truly call home: a farm with land, nature, and space to build a different future together.

Our original plan was to travel across Europe in a motorhome, starting from Portugal. We bought our tickets to Portugal six months in advance, and three months later we discovered that our third child was on the way. With a few bags and a lot of courage, we flew to Portugal.

We first lived in the south of Portugal, in the Odemira area in the Alentejo region, and quickly fell deeply in love with the country, its people, and its slower rhythm of life. After our new baby was born, we traveled across Portugal searching for our future home. At first, we did not find it in Central Portugal, even though we felt strongly connected to the area, so we returned to the south and began building a life there.

Eventually, we found our dream quinta the Portuguese word for a rural farm property and started making plans, working the land, and imagining our future there. But life had other plans. Difficult news from our hometown forced us to return and step back into our old life for a while.

During that period, severe drought affected the Alentejo region, and our old love for Central Portugal with its green mountains, abundant water, rivers, and fertile land stayed deeply in our hearts. We knew we had to begin searching once again for the place that truly felt like home.

And then we found it.

It was love at first sight.

The ruin, the Alva River, the mountains, the natural water mines it felt like paradise. The property was beautiful, full of potential, and somehow everything aligned perfectly. The price was affordable, every important box was checked, and we knew this was the place where we wanted to build our dream life.

So, we bought it, returned to Portugal, and began creating our home.
